took my niece to the zoo a couple of days back… thanks to the sunshine… the trip became a reality… the parking at the zoo costs three and a half times the zoo ticket.. entry’s free for bachchas below 5 years… wah wah… i like this place.. even for older kids… and in fact for college students it is a good place to spend time.. you can spend two-five hours there without getting bored… and if you are in a gang..you wouldn’t know how time flew till you stomach reminds you so… and you are not allowed to carry eatables inside.. i was happy to not see anyone attempting to feed the animals the nonsense we eat… but there was something else that struck me… as we neared the enclosure of the white tiger, i was so overwhelmed by the sudden realisation… the tiger stared me in the eye.. and i wondered… what the hell would this tiger be thinking? that poor little.. ok not little… but that poor tiger… had a spacious enclosure and all.. but what do you do the whole day? sit and stare at people… who stare you right back… and just keep on wanting to see you move… but there is no reason for you to move… there is nowhere to go… no food to hunt.. no one to play with… talk to… there is no ferocity in the tiger.. the lion is more docile than the newly wed indian bahu… the wolf was busy probably in his post lunch exercise regime.. but imagine someone walking the treadmill in a gym and 50 people watching him… just amused that he was gymming!!! i wonder if animals think so much… if they get bored… if they get frustrated and go insane with all the thought and no work… its a sad, sad world…

It is often seen that a majority of teachers stay away from political and administrative positions. In such a situation, it is indeed a matter of pride that a teacher was chosen…

do you have any questions?
i, like many my age, have several issues with the well accepted traditional arranged marriage system so integral a part of “our indian culture”. a lot of my friends, particularly men, have asked me often, “do you believe in arranged marriages?” i always asked, what’s there to believe? the system’s right here in front of…
What If We Let Students Fail, Reflect, and Change Course
I was a fairly underconfident teen in 1994. As the new academic session began, our class was asked to move to the ‘big’ building in school that housed the senior secondary classes. I wasn’t excited but I had recently started loving some subjects. English and science in particular. In class nine, in a substitution period,…

i have studied too much to know that believing in something need not necessarialy mean that you have faith in it… but today i am not here to debate the finer epistemological nuances of faith and beliefs… i am probably not the right person to do so, with my lack of philosophical ability.. but more…
