Yeh Sach Hai

The love for reading Hindi continues. I have always been a fan of Amrita Pritam’s writings. This one did not disappoint either. The protagonist of the story is at a juncture in life where he will move on to a new adventure in a day. He sits, reminiscing about the past, reflecting on his decisions, and revisiting regrets, justifying his own actions, to a court he has set up in his head. The need to find such moments of escape are significant. This is the tale of the everyday, the tale of everybody who sits and thinks about life. It will make you wonder about your own choices, of choosing between the head and the heart, of living a life decided by society, and taking decisions that are your own. 

The need to be true to oneself, reflect on the whys behind the whats, is probably not felt or given credence by everyone. This book will hold meaning to you if you are the reflective kinds who like solitude. If not, you may not want to read it. 

I have often wondered where Amrita Pritam has drawn inspiration from. Some of her writing has clear autobiographical elements. Others don’t. To me, her writing has distinct existential undertones. If found, there is meaning in the everyday. If not, there is meaninglessness in the unusual.
