The book is a collection of four stories, each one completely different from the other. The first and the last focus on social issues and talk about the struggles of people who choose to tread the difficult path of starting a revolution. The last one, The Sanitary Man from a Sacred Land, is inspired from a true story and is probably the inspiration for the upcoming movie featuring the author’s husband.
The other stories, although I am not sure if they are based entirely on people in Khanna’s life, definitely seem to draw upon elements from life experiences of the author. Her acknowledgements in the end give a hint to the same. It is left to the reader’s imagination how much of the works are fictionalised.
The stories are a joy to read. The last one being the longest, as a book it would have been a better read if there was some balance in the length of the stories and maybe even the pace. Overall, it is an enjoyable read. There is an everyday feel to the stories. I am sure everyone would find some element of themselves at some stage in life in these stories. A good read.
