Rowling’s eighth in the Harry Potter series is a special rehearsal edition script for a stage play endeavour with John Tiffany and Jack Thorne. The play presents the life of Potter and his friends and family almost two decades after the last book concludes. Relationships continue as expected. Harry is married to Ginny and is seeing off their son Albus Severus Potter for his first year at Hogwartz. Ron and Hermoine have a family of their own. The enmity with Malfoys is more or less dissolved and new friendship bonds are developed in the story.
Although the story is continued, it is a different read than the earlier writings, in terms of format and detailing. While it is written like a play, the lack of detailing makes it difficult to reach the imaginary world that was created by the previous writings. Characteristic of Potter books, there are many twists and turns but the maturity and complexity is toned down and I felt that I was reading a book meant for school children.
Nevertheless, Potter fans will not be able to resist reading it. For others, I can’t imagine why you would read it.
Every Book has a Story
I had no intent of reading this book for quite some time. But destiny had other plans. So blessed are those who give books as gifts. Blessed are those who receive two copies of the same book and choose to share selflessly. Blessed are those who know that I can and would be happy to read. Thanks are due to many.
