Name: The Crimson Throne
Author: Sudhir Kakar
Reading Time: Forever..
About the Book:
The book is set in the Moghul era and narrates the tale of two doctors/ medicinemen, who have come from the far west. The experiences of the two Europeans of their travels in India and how their lives and destinies meet take up a major part of this book.
I have always been a big fan of Kakar but somehow, this book failed to leave a mark. It is vague, excruciatingly slow, and frankly, quite boring. I would expect a work of Kakr to have some traces of psychoanalysis. But sadly, he has proven me wrong. Maybe my expectations are too much in a work meant to be fiction and non academic. Favourite quote: Surprisingly for a Kakar book, None.
Final Analysis: Only Kakar fans may read.
