About the Book:
The book is a love story of a small town boy who joins an elite college in Delhi. He falls in love with a girl from a rich family background. The story is his first person account of his efforts in ‘winning’ the girl over. The novel reinforces stereotypes associated with living in specific contexts. The two protagonists represent extremes of rural and urban upbringings and lifestyles. Like any other too good to be true love story, opposites attract, there are obstacles in the face of true love, drama in every other scene, and in the end, they live together happily ever after.
The story is not very complicated and Bhagat could not have simplified life more than this. There are answers for everything. The rich are very rich, the poor are very poor. The bad are only bad and the good only good. There are rare, if any, grey areas.
Final Analysis:
The book is an easy read. Okay for Bhagat fans, beginner readers and if you need a one day break with something light to read. Otherwise, you may as well skip it.
