About the Book:
The book is a diary of Greg Heffley, a young, school going boy. His dairy is interspersed with rough drawings and sketches that add vivid detail to his life’s descriptions. The diary is written in just enough detail for the readers to enjoy the everyday activities. Although it can be seen as a book for children, I think all adults would enjoy reading it as well. Because of all the sketches (every page has at least one), the book is a quick read. I must add that the sketches are brilliant, hilarious and the soul of the book.
It is a very real description of the life of a pre-teen boy who loves and hates everything from his toys, to his family, to his school and his friends. His addiction to computer games is perfectly presented. I feel almost everyone would be able to identify with the boy for some adventure (mischief) of his or another. Besides being an enjoyable read, it is also a good book for parents and teachers who are otherwise at their wits’ end in understanding children.
I should add that although this is the first one that I have read, it is actually the sixth in the series.
Favourite Quotes:
“It is too much pressure to be on your best behaviour for a whole month. The most I can really handle is six or seven days in a row.” (p.1)
“I try to be ass specific as possible when I make my list, because whenever I leave my gifts up to Mom and Dad, I get some crazy stuff.” (p. 37)
Final Analysis: Please read. I am sure you will enjoy it. I am wondering why I didn’t read it earlier.
