Cure by Robin Cook is a medical thriller interspersed by mafia wars and some crime chills. A Japanese scientist makes a breakthrough discovery and ends up in a legal mess about patents and potential corporate successes. I was hoping to read more about his discovery but the story turned completely towards a crime thriller. There was murder, and kidnapping, state and private detectives, and the whole mish-mash of forensic detective work.
It took me a whole month to read this one which indicates that I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I had hoped. I have come to realise that I the value of his Jack Stapleton- Laurie Montgomery series has been decreasing for me. I have always picked up Cook expecting to read about some scientific breakthroughs or medical mysteries. These series are over laden with crime and there is barely any suspense. In the absence of depth and suspense, there is little to look forward to. However, it is quick paced and if you are looking for crime thriller rather than medical fiction, you might enjoy it.
