Padhna, Zara Sochna

This short book is a collection of essays by Prof Krishna Kumar. A stalwart in the field of education, his writing is always worth reading. The collection of essays is thought provoking, right from the first sentence of the book. It makes you wonder whether most of us are reading without comprehending. The essays are on varied aspects of reading, particularly in school settings. Kumar also makes a clear distinction between reading and studying, particularly studying for examination.
The writing is serious, replete with examples from the field, and raises several questions on reading in the classroom, literacy, education and social values. For such a slim book, this is neither an easy, nor a quick read. All teachers, curriculum developers, school administrators must read it. All students and researchers in education should read it. All parents who are concerned about their children getting educated and not just preparing for jobs, should read it.
A word of appreciation for the publishers and the artist. The book print is good quality. It is one of the rare coffee table books in Hindi. The sculptures photographed in the book are by Mr Chandramohan Kulkarni and he has captured the essence really well.
