Name: The Untouchable
Author: Mulk Raj Anand
Time Taken: 4-5 metro rides
The title is self explanatory. It is a book that tells the tale of a young boy born in a scavenger family. By caste, the lowest in the hierarchy of the untouchables. Considered touch-worthy only by fellow untouchables of the same caste and the forever outcast, Muslims. I can’t really say that it is much of a revelation, nothing unheard of. It kind of gets boring and stretched at some places. But Anand has managed to capture the inner psychic conflict of Bakha (the untouchable) and his father quite well.
