Name: The Kept Woman and Other Stories
Author: Kamla Das
Reading Time: 3-4 metro rides
About the Book:
The book is a collection of short stories by Kamla Das. Some of the stories have been translated by the author herself, others by numerous others. The stories touch a variety of topics mostly revolving around women and the way they think and feel. At times the topics and the narrations are so vague that you have to struggle to grasp the author’s intent. At other times, relationships are portrayed in a very straight, in your face manner. I don’t know the social context in which it has been written in so I can’t comment. Some of the stories leave a mark, true lies, parboti’s story… But it is not a very grasping book.
Favourtite Quote: None in the book but the back cover has a quote by Das “I feel a woman is most attractive when she surrenders to her man…” 😛 really?
Final Analysis: If you haven’t read it so far, you aren’t missing anything.
P.S. Sorry Kavya, I think I should have selected a better book for your award.
