Author: Scott Adams
Reading Time: 3 Metro Rides (if you’re not completely blown over. In which case it may take forever. I didn’t read it in the metro though.)
About the Book:
God’s Debris tells us how we all are God’s Debris. This is probably the best possible summary I can write, because the book deals with topics so varied and so vague that I am unsure if I can capture the essence of the ideas in my own writing. For instance, to say that probability is the essence of God sounds completely lunatic. Yet when you read the book, it makes perfect sense. And a lot of other things in the book make sense. In fact the logic is so in your face that everything you’ve believed so far, starts to sound lame. The book is not the everyday book you pick up for casual reading. It is written simply. But the ideas are far from simple. You can not fathom what is written unless you play with the ideas in your head. It falls in the genres of fictional, philosophical, scientific and life skills management, all at the same time. Adams himself describes the book thus: “I call it a 132-page thought experiment wrapped in a fictional story.”
The complexity, and yet the lucidity, is unnerving.
Favourite Quote: Many-
“Well, not exactly, but basically the same thing. I mean, love is love.”
“This is why people of different religions can generally live in peace. At some level, we all suspect that other people don’t believe their own religion any more than we believe ours.”
Final Analysis: If you are a casual reader, looking for some peaceful reading that does not require you to use the brain, this is not the book for you. If you are a regular reader, it is a must read. IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND AWAY!
P.S. Thank you, Rohit Garg, for getting me to read this book.
