Devlok with Devdutt Pattanaik

Devlok is a collection of interactions with Pattnai over various aspect of Hindu mythology. I have always found mythological stories and the symbolism they hold to be a fascinating read. In that sense it is ofcourse an enjoyable read. If like me, you have been watching Devdutt on Epic channel, then you would practically hear him speaking in your head as you read it.

I am wondering though if the book would be as enriching to someone who is unfamiliar with Hindu mythology and folklore. Further, the chapters have been organised in order of their televised sequence. There is little editing done except making grammatically correct sentences in a single language in book form. Thus there are obvious repetitions across chapters. There is no interconnection between one chapter and the next. None of the stories are as detailed as they should be to capture interest. Most importantly, if you have seen the entire series, you will probably not learn anything else from this book. Finally, from an avid book lover/reader, Devdutt is much better to listen to than read. 

I picked up this one purely out of a fascination for mythology mixed with the captivating speech of Devdutth on Epic. I have gone back to believing that whatever has been on camera should not be converted into a book later. The other way round works better.
