The book talks about diagnosing and addressing dyslexia in children and what makes living with it tough. It is an interesting read since so far the ones that I have read have mostly been written by professionals. What this does is that it simplifies research in a language that everyone can understand. However, it also presents a chapter on aura reading etc which I don’t personally agree with. I give the author credit in repeatedly reminding the reader that it is his perspective and opinion.
The book does mention the deeply flawed education system. At the same time, there is a very inspiring list of inventors who have lived with dyslexia. This at times makes you wonder if it would be better if everyone had dyslexia! At the same time, the absence of knowledge and awareness, and a system that is not supportive of paying individual attention does make schooling an unwelcome experience. And I am left wondering how much we can do as teachers! For the first step, we can read, this and other such books.
