Shartein Lagoo is a collection of short stories by Divya Prakash Dubey. I discovered his writing this year and have managed to finish the three books by him that I could lay my hands on. I have already pre booked his next release. I think this should be enough to say that I enjoy his writing. His writing is contemporary and light. The complexity is in the stories and not in the language. This makes it a good read for everyone.
The stories in this book are based on his observations of life. The most endearing thing about his writing is the subtle way in which he makes you challenge the popular perceptions that many of us hold in society. Life happens, Dubey observes, he writes, you read. It is a good read although Musafir Cafe is still my favourite. Again, maybe because I don’t like short stories. Also because Musafir Cafe is better edited than the other two.
In the two collection of short stories, Masala Chai and Shartein Lagoo, I felt that each of the stories had the potential for them to be taken ahead. They are complete in short stories but there was a lot of scope for developing the plot further, of taking the story ahead. Nevertheless, an enjoyable read.
