The book is the first in a series as the title specifies. It falls in the fantasy fiction genre. The tale revolves around the kingdom of Bandahar. There are a lot of characters and as many places. The story line is appreciable but not gripping enough for me to keep track of all these characters with a tired mind. I feel the intricacy was lost in brevity and the book would have benefited from detailing at some places. At other places, I found it repetitive. For a debut novel, the author deserves to be congratulated. Yet, there is much scope for editorial improvements. If you like mythology, you might enjoy the book. I am as yet confused about picking up other books in the series as and when they are released. While the story has left unanswered questions which I want to know answers to, it has not been so enjoyable that I would want to read more of it. A mixed bag…
