In this book, Ravish Kumar talks on various contemporary political and social issues. Many of the essays in the book draw from his previous shows and articles. As it is reputed to be, the book is bold and undoubtedly thought provoking. Irrespective of your ideology, I recommend this book be read. The author draws upon his education and experience in the media to explore the trajectory of events. Thus, I feel, that irrespective of differences of opinions, any reader would be forced to take a look at historical developments that have contributed to the current state of affairs in the world and India. The aspect of the book that resonated most with me is the frequent reference to Orwell’s 1984. I think that anyone who reads this book would also be tempted to read 1984 and this is a good take away from the book. The book, I am hoping, would lead people to rethink their role in society. While the author is repeatedly questioning people in media industry, but I think all professionals need to revisit their work and think about issues that are often taken for granted.
It would be unfair if I did not mention that it was a joy to listen to the book in the author’s voice. Sotrytel deserves to be applauded for that.
