No I havent seen the movie so it is not about that…
What has triggered this one is a series of events… one of which, the most significant one, infact, is that I have been waiting to turn 30 forever now… Now I have no fascination or the lack of it for growing old, but just that God has blessed me (or not) with looks that nobody ever takes me seriously.. and I have always harboured hopes that turning 30 would change that. 30 years old.. thats a big number isnt it. My hopes were somewhat dashed when a 5 year old I met asked me how old I was and in my attempt to not mislead, I said 30 (my birthday is still a few days away, but what do a few days count for?). And the 5 year old, in a very bad attempt at mocking me, said he was 97! I think I am going to tell his parents to teach him some manners.
Well this was the first. The second was when a few weeks ago, after a long day at college, I was sitting for a cup of tea with a thirty something friend. Nothing wrong in that. Behind me, was a ‘gang’ of young scholars who insisted that we over hear them and not even attempt to engage in conversation even with our thoughts. When groups become gangs, I think it is time to accept that I am growing old or just turning 30…
The third one is a brief incident. I drove today for close to 150 kms across three states, with three senior citizens. All of a sudden I feel very responsible. Responsibly thirty. 🙂
