Book Review: Dhoop Ke Sikke

This book is a collection of songs written by Prasoon Joshi. I chanced upon this book while browsing online and picked it up thinking it to be a collection of Hindi poetry. It is not exactly poems only, but he has shared the songs that he has written. I was surprised to see that many of the songs that I love have been written by him. The surprise comes from my lack of knowledge of lyricists. This may be due to my inherent ignorance or the lack of publicity that many lyricists seem to receive. It was a pleasure to read the words of my favourite songs. I found them magical even without the music in my head. There were other beautifully written songs that I had never even heard of. I found the stories behind the songs even more beautiful to read. He rightly said at one place, every song has a story of its own. It is sad that we never get to hear these stories. The collection of songs in Taare Zameen Par is my favourite. Many of his songs carry unusual lyrics and the process of finalising songs has come out beautifully in it. I liked the book for the lovely collection it presents. A good read.
