I picked up this book in a moment of desperation to become more organised coupled with the frustration at not being able to find time to work. Combining the two, I cheated myself into believing that reading will make me more productive.
Zahariades has made an honest effort to try to get you to organise your time better by making better things-to-do lists. If you are finicky about organisation of your time and your life, then you probably know that it is nearly impossible to start a day, a task or even a vacation without a list. I thought I was doing fine till I read the first chapter. And I realise that this man was talking about when he was talking about inefficient lists. A major part of the book is devoted to a collection of ideas that other people have given about how to make effective lists and I found it useful to quickly read them again. It is interesting how many different ways of organising things exist and are still being explored. The book goes ahead of only summarising and gives a critical take on how lists can be made better. In the end he gives his own way of doing things, part of which involves technology. That is where I realised that I could no longer apply what is being recommended. After trying half a dozen apps, sharing tasks over apps and the like, I have still always gone back to good old pen and paper and I intend to continue doing so. Of course, you may want to try what he is suggesting since each person organises better. The book is a quick and easy read. It is crisp and to the point. You won’t be wasting your time.
